Hello Darlings!
I hope this summer is bringing you strength and rejuvenation. It’s been awhile since my last missive. The biggest update is that I am now a mother. My big creative project of the last year and a half is my daughter. It’s an all encompassing transformation and it continues as my girl grows. She is approaching 7 months old and her current research includes sitting unassisted and eating food. Thrilling! I am also writing to invite you to some lovely events in the coming weeks here in Seattle. The Freeway Park Association reached out to me with the request that I bring the movement practice of Anna Halprin to the park in celebration of its 50th anniversary. The park was completed by Anna’s husband, Lawrence Halprin, with the design direction of Angela Danadjieva. You can see the Halprins’ creative philosophies manifested in the architecture itself. Mirroring Seattle’s ecology and in conversation with the urban landscape, the park bridges the slash that I-5 makes across the face of the city. I will bring 3 events to the park:
Body and Space In this workshop I invite participants of every background to experience the somatic-based creative tools employed by the Halprins in the development of their work, especially as it relates to the use of space. The workshop begins with a dance based warm up focused on somatic embodiment and site-responsiveness. We will dance alone, together, and with the park! Seneca Plaza, Freeway Park July 23rd, 5-7pm Seattle, Wa Free! Body and Space: Info + RSVP Scoring This workshop focuses specifically on Scoring and the RSVP cycles. This flexible framework for sensing, feeling, thinking, generating, iterating and decision making can be applied to any creative project. Anyone interested in invigorating their creative process will find something exciting in this experience. We will reflect on our relationship to environment and creativity, and create original scores. Seneca Plaza, Freeway Park July 30th, 5-7pm Seattle, Wa Free! Scoring: Info + RSVP Planetary Dance and Potluck It is my honor to facilitate Anna Halprin’s classic score, Planetary Dance, this summer with the support of live drumming by Paul Moore. The community dance ritual is meant to foster peace between people and peace with the Earth. The dance consists of concentric circles of running, walking, standing and dancing which creates a moving mandala. You can learn more about the Planetary Dance by watching this short documentary. This particular event is also a potluck! Bring your friends, family and neighbors and dance for what you love and then break bread together. If you find your self called to it, join us. It is sure to be a powerful experience. Planetary Dance and Potluck Seneca Plaza, Freeway Park August 6th, 2pm Seattle, Wa Free! Planetary Dance: Info and RSVP Come be a bright spot in the chaotic swirling all around us. It would be a joy to dance with you. I wish you peace and grace rooted in what gives you meaning this season. With Love, Lucie B
